Cybercrime & Nudity: Cases of Perversion

Written by Julius Leonen of the Philippine Inquirer on January 18, 2018, a Filipino-Pakistani man was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime Division agents after he had uploaded nude imagery of his mistress to show to her coworkers and her recent boyfriend. The two met through social media in Facebook, and the complainant often sent him said imagery out of love without realizing the possible consequences. The complainant broke up with him after finding out that he had been married to another Filipina, although denied the reality and tried to convince her to coming back to their relationship. Bukhari, the suspect, soon found that she has a new boyfriend.

Later on, Bukhari began to blackmail her through the use of her imagery if she would not go back to him and break up with her new boyfriend. The complainant ignored the threat, angering Bukhari and sent the photos of her to her new boyfriend and workmates. He added that he would only delete the images for a meet up and intercourse, to which the complainant then sought out the help of the NBI.

In the age of cybercrime, the greater danger is not defense imperfection, but to protect first what not really matters.

Although a person would seem to be saintly across your community, one should be wary of sending personal imagery or documentation that could give the latter party a leverage when his or her personality ticks out of emotional distress. Remaining vigilant of who you could trust, whether or not he or she is a personal friend or someone you’ve met in the internet, should be a priority to ensure personal safety from being exploited or blackmailed for information or actions that could affect your health.
